The Hatcher Group have just released a great report on how non-profits have been using social media to build support and to call to action their supporters. The report is based on surveys and interviews held with thirty non-profits to see how they are using such new media as blogs, Twitter, and Facebook.
The report assumes interest but no prior knowledge of such social media, thus it includes some clear introductory call outs on each social medium (how it works, how to establish an account, etc.). The report also includes a useful guide of best-practices for each medium.
A surprise (at least to this blogger) was the fact that non-profits rely on blogging to keep their constituents up-to-date and to educated on their work, but Twitter is not seen as being quite as valuable. Nevertheless, the report suggests ways to make any and all of the major social-networking tools work for you and your organization.
The report is available for download as a PDF.
